About Me
My name is Maya Kaiser, but also Azatchi. The Kaiser part is what I was born with - and through it I inherited the urge to create, a love for color, and the joy of working with materials. The Kaiser comes from my grandmother, a rug weaver, and my father, a glass sculptor. From each of them I received a small spark that passes through my hands and continues to tell their story.
Photography has always been my first love. At the age of 12, I received my first camera - the legendary Pentax K1000 - from my great-aunt, who was a photographer herself. That gift began a lifelong romance. My passion for capturing magical human moments is endless - and addictive.
In the past year, amid dark colors and heavy feelings, I felt a sudden need to paint - to leap into this new world and discover its hidden corners that speak to me so deeply. Hour after hour, every day, I find myself learning this magical language. What flows from me onto the paper continues to surprise me again and again.
It’s a bit like motherhood - no matter how many children you have, there’s always room for more love. That’s how I feel about painting, which entered my life and was instantly embraced with the same love and patience as its older sibling, photography - my “only child” for almost 40 years.
After much thought, I chose not to give titles to my paintings. I prefer that each viewer finds their own name, their own feeling, their own story in each piece. For me, every painting was a journey, a story that came through me onto the page - and now, it becomes your journey.
I love the play on words:
Point of View = Point of You = Point of Me.
And that’s how the name was born.
That’s me — in a nutshell.
The rest, you’ll find in the paintings.
